How To Write A Book

How to write a book? This question fascinated me for years. Ever since I was a child, I loved reading books. I whiled away summer holidays in the pleasurable company of literary geniuses, immortalized through their written words.

It wasn't until many years later that the idea to write a book of my own started taking seed. At first, it was just a whim, a wishful fantasy. Over time, the desire grew stronger. I started planning out genre and plot, storyline and theme. If you've ever been even mildly curious about how to write a novel, you'll have day-dreamed about it the way I did too.

For most would-be authors, however, that's where the dream ends. And it might have ended that way for me, too - except that I discovered the Internet and the World Wide Web. That changed everything!

Becoming a Better Writer

Suddenly I found an audience for my writing, and had access to information about every possible aspect of how to write a fiction book. There were discussion groups sharing tips on how to write a book. Expert agents and experienced publishers were willingly giving away advice about how to write a book proposal. And my dream came to life again.

I started exercising my creative writing muscle. It started out with drafting a few articles for my personal website. They caught the attention of a talent scout who invited me to write professionally for a very reputed website (that later grew to become one of the top 10 Web content properties!)

With a growing audience that was accessible through my writing, I was now coming into contact with readers from around the world who offered feedback and criticism. It helped me get better, fine-tune my writing skills and steadily improve the quality and style of my written work.

How To Write a Book - My Dream Revived

That's when the idea of writing a book came alive again, and I started seriously looking for information on how to write a book. There are many resources online that provide guidance, but very few that were comprehensive, elaborate and tailored for the beginner who is just getting started, and seeking help with how to write a story.

So I bought books from Amazon.com and even registered for a few seminars on how to write a novel. There are dozens of different methods to go about it, and picking the one that's ideally suited for your style and method of working can sometimes be difficult. But once you discover the approach that's best for you, the process itself can be simple and enjoyable.

How To Write a Book - And Then Publish It

Of course after it is written, you'll have to figure out how to publish a book. Thankfully with the advent of self-publishing resources like CreateSpace.com, anyone can now be a publisher. But there are decided advantages to having your work represented by a 'name publisher' (a bigger house or imprint) that can get your book in front of a wider audience.

In other sections of this site, I will share some of my thoughts and experiences on how to write a book and get it published. With two non-fiction works in print (both of which became Amazon.com HOT 100 best-sellers), I can offer you some useful tips on how to write a book.

And if you're looking for information on how to write a fiction book, then my voyage from concept to finished novel (which has been submitted for the Amazon.com Young Writers Award contest) may be of interest to you.
